In Momiji, you immerse yourself in the beauty of ancient Japan’s Imperial Garden, striving to collect the most valuable autumn leaves to fulfill various objectives. Each player begins with a hand of six leaf cards and three unique landscape powers, combining them to create a distinctive panorama. The game starts with four random leaf cards displayed centrally and 4-6 randomly chosen objective tokens, each representing different goals such as collecting the most cards of a particular type or achieving the highest sum of visible cards by the end of the game.
On your turn, you can choose one of three actions: Collect leaf cards by taking all cards of one type from the central display, with the option to reveal new cards by paying an acorn token; Play leaf cards by placing 1-2 cards of the same type or multiple cards of different types into your player area, with specific rules for placing and closing piles; or Activate an objective token by paying three acorn tokens, allowing you to potentially score points based on that objective at game’s end.
Throughout the game, you can also discard two cards for one acorn token or spend acorns to utilize landscape powers, each usable only once. The game concludes when the leaf card deck is depleted or after 4-6 leaf piles are closed with torii tokens. Scoring is based on the topmost card values in each pile multiplied by the number of cards, with additional points for remaining acorn tokens and activated objectives.
The player with the highest total victory points, accumulated through leaf piles, acorns, and objectives, wins the game. Momiji blends strategic card management with the serene beauty of autumn leaves, offering a captivating and immersive experience as you strive to create the most impressive garden panorama.
